About This Opportunity

The Alison Burrell Bequest is a scholarship established in 2020 to provide financial assistance to students studying to become a composer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. The scholarship was established from a bequest from Alison Burrell and supports both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including coursework and research degrees. Eligible students must be enrolled or have an unconditional offer to study full-time at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and be studying to become a composer. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, portfolio and/or performance, and for postgraduate research applicants, research achievements and potential may also be considered. Applicants may be required to attend an interview. No formal application is necessary as eligible students will be automatically considered for this scholarship as part of their admission application to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The scholarship value and duration are determined by the Dean of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and will vary based on individual circumstances. For coursework students, payments are made in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester, while postgraduate research students receive a fortnightly stipend. Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic performance throughout the tenure of the scholarship, with coursework students required to maintain a minimum WAM of 65 each semester. The scholarship is subject to the availability of funds and cannot be deferred, though transfer within the same faculty may be permitted with written approval from the Dean.
