About this opportunity
This scholarship was established in 2014 by the Anstiss-Garland Charitable Trust following the death of Diana Anstiss in 2012. She and Lilian Garland were companions for many years and both had an interest in helping those in need and those who could be considered disadvantaged in society. Diana's professional career included working for the Prison Service and she was the Assistant Manager at Arohata Women's Prison before she retired. The purpose of this scholarship is to support postgraduate students studying social justice in areas relating to rehabilitation and restorative justice. The scholarship is available to full-time postgraduate students at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington who are New Zealand citizens or Permanent Residents. Students from any course of study which focuses on social justice are eligible, but students studying Criminology, Psychology, Sociology, Law and Restorative Justice are particularly encouraged to apply. Students holding a full three-year PhD scholarship are not eligible to apply.
