About this opportunity
This scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance to a PhD student undertaking research into climate change adaptation strategies for food security in northeast India. The student will be part of the research team on an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project entitled 'Climate change mitigation strategies for food security in northeast India', based at the University of Sydney and led by Alison Betts. This project aims to identify strategies for climate change resilience in the northeast Nagaland region through a study of past and present agriculture, earlier climate adaptations, vanishing traditional knowledge and dietary health. The successful applicant will specialise in nutritional science, with an interdisciplinary focus on the nutritional effects of ancient and modern Naga diets, specifically considering the health impacts of bio-techniques for food preservation, such as pickling and smoking of food. The applicant will explore the implications of the project findings for modern-day diet and health and provide insights into how best to respond to anticipated dietary changes and challenges caused by climate change.
