About this opportunity
The Dorothy Cameron Fellowship is a postgraduate research scholarship valued at $12,500 designed to support research into the role of women in ancient societies. Established in 1992 through a donation by Roy and Dorothy Cameron, this fellowship encourages research into the role of women, particularly in the study of belief systems and rituals, in societies from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age.
The fellowship is available to master's by research or PhD students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. The funding is intended to cover research-related expenses including travel, fieldwork, technical equipment, and conference attendance. Selection is based on academic merit, the strength and quality of the research proposal (with particular encouragement for theoretical, innovative, and interdisciplinary proposals), and a personal statement demonstrating how the research aligns with the fellowship's focus.
Preference is given to meritorious proposals from women applicants. The fellowship is paid as a lump sum upon receipt of the Fellowship Acceptance Form. Recipients must maintain receipts for all costs incurred for up to one year and may be required to produce these receipts if requested by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
