About this opportunity

The W. H. and Elizabeth M. Deane Archaeology Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship valued at $7,100 AUD to support master's by research or PhD students undertaking research in archaeology at the University of Sydney. This scholarship was established by a donation made by W.H. and Elizabeth M. Deane to assist students with research expenses including travel, fieldwork, technical equipment, and conference attendance. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a master's by research or PhD in Archaeology within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The scholarship requires applicants to demonstrate financial hardship due to one or more of several criteria including identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, low socio-economic status, carer responsibilities, long-term medical condition/disability, sole-parent responsibilities, regional or remote disadvantage, refugee status, identifying as LGBTIQ+, or being first in family. The successful applicant is awarded based on academic merit, area of study and/or research proposal, a personal statement including reasons for seeking funding, and a copy of the latest annual progress evaluation meeting report. Priority is given to applicants pursuing archaeological research with a language component. The scholarship value is paid as a once-off payment and cannot be deferred or suspended without prior permission.
