About This Opportunity

The Midlands Graduate School is an accredited Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Partnership that forms part of the ESRC's Doctoral Training Network, significantly widening access for postgraduates to ESRC funding across the UK. The MGS is a collaboration of eight universities including the University of Leicester, offering 17 different training pathways that span various social science disciplines. Several postgraduate studentships are awarded annually across the pathways and institutions. The partnership offers comprehensive doctoral training with pathways in disciplines including History, Museum Studies, Population Health Sciences, Media and Communication, Management, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, and Economics. Studentships are available as +3.5 year PhD, +3.75 year PhD requiring 2 ESRC research skill modules, +4 year PhD requiring 3 ESRC research skills modules, or 1+3.5 (4 year with a Masters leading directly to a PhD) awards. All studentships are available on a full-time or part-time basis, and are open to applicants straight from undergraduate study. The program provides UK fees and a stipend at UKRI rates, along with research training support grants. Students benefit from being part of a multi-institutional network that provides access to world-class training and research opportunities across the social sciences.
