About this opportunity
The Garrick Latch Postgraduate Travel Grants support full-time doctoral students researching plant pathology, molecular plant pathology, or closely related fields at Massey University. The grants provide financial assistance of approximately $10,000 NZD for international travel related to doctoral research, specifically for attending international conferences where students will present their research findings or for short-term overseas work that supports their doctoral programme.
Established in 2017, these grants honor Dr. Garrick Latch, who completed a Master of Agricultural Science at Massey University in 1958 and earned a Fulbright Scholarship for his PhD in plant pathology from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Latch's pioneering work in plant pathology included developing disease resistance in grasses and legumes and using pathogenic fungi for biological control.
The grants are available to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who demonstrate high academic achievement. Recipients must be enrolled in a PhD program with a focus on plants or plant pathology at Massey University. Multiple awards are available each year, with applications opening December 1st and closing March 1st.
