About This Opportunity

The George "Robert" Beattey Scholarship honors George "Robert" Beattey, who was born and raised on a Mt. Ephraim dairy farm in Noble County, Ohio. He graduated from Mt. Ephraim High School in 1934 at age 16, served honorably as a lieutenant with the Seventh Armored Division in Europe during WWII, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge, and later attended The Ohio State University on the GI Bill. He worked for the Soil Conservation Service of the United States Department of Agriculture in multiple Ohio counties. This scholarship recognizes Beattey's determination to do his best in the classroom, on the farm, on the battlefield, and in the workplace. It is awarded to students who display an outstanding work ethic. The scholarship provides $5,000 in total funding, distributed progressively over four years with 10% awarded in year one, 20% in year two, 30% in year three, and 40% in year four. Candidates must be graduating high school seniors from Shenandoah High School in Noble County, Ohio who have lived in Noble County for four years, with preference given to residents of Seneca or Center townships. Applicants must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and be in the top 50% of their class, and must plan to attend a public, state-supported four-year college or university in Ohio.
