About This Opportunity

The Heart & Stroke foundation is looking to support Black and Indigenous Scholars in heart and stroke research, with the objective of increasing the number of highly qualified Black and Indigenous Trainees across Canada committed to the Fields of heart and/or brain research. Students must be working on research focused on heart and/or brain health. In the context of this award, heart and/or brain health research encompasses research addressing conditions, including neurological, that affect the cardiovascular and/or cerebrovascular health of people living in Canada. This could include research focused on prevention, treatment, and/or recovery related to heart conditions, stroke, vascular cognitive impairment, and mental health in relation to these conditions. The award provides doctoral students with $40,000 per year for three years and master's students with $27,000 per year for two years. Applicants must self-identify as Black or Indigenous and must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or Protected Persons. At the time of submission, applicants must either be enrolled in a full-time doctoral or master's program at an eligible Canadian institution, or have applied for full-time admission with a start date of no later than September 30, 2025.
