About this opportunity
The John Alexander Milne Scholarship supports students undertaking research in ovine (sheep) fertility and reproduction at Massey University. John Milne trained as a veterinarian in Australia and later moved to Dunedin, New Zealand where he successfully worked as a veterinary surgeon. Upon his death, he left a bequest of $100,000 to Massey University to be invested, with the interest being used to financially support master's research students in the field of sheep reproduction.
This is a postgraduate scholarship for students enrolled in a 90 or 120 credit research course as part of a master's degree with the School of Agriculture and Environment. Research must be related to sheep reproduction either directly or indirectly, which might include systems modelling or farmer survey research focused on reproduction. Studies should be aimed at understanding the underlying reproductive biology of sheep, the economic impacts of impaired reproductive performance, or improving reproductive performance in New Zealand sheep flocks.
The scholarship provides $4,000 NZD for one year's duration and is available to New Zealand citizens. Selection is based on academic achievement in taught postgraduate courses as well as the research topic and its alignment with the scholarship's intent.
