About this opportunity
The Middle Class Scholarship program was created in 2013 by California Governor Jerry Brown to make higher education more affordable for middle-income families. This scholarship is available for new, transfer, and returning undergraduates, as well as students pursuing a teaching credential at University of California campuses. Award amounts vary based on each student's cost of attendance, other available gift aid, a self-help student contribution of $8,154, and parent contribution for dependent students with household income over $100,000. The program requires family income and assets not to exceed certain amounts as determined by the California State Budget. Students must maintain enrollment of at least 12 units at the fifth week of the semester to receive the full award. The final award amount depends on the number of eligible students statewide and funding allocated by the State Budget, and awards may be reduced if appropriated funds are insufficient.
