About This Opportunity

The Ngupaiyiko Yammaliko Scholarship is part of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Scholarship Scheme at the University of Queensland. Established in 2024 by Dr Sharlene Leroy-Dyer, an Aboriginal academic in the UQ Business School, this scholarship empowers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to pursue their ambitions within business, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The scholarship name means 'give back, lead' in Awabakal language. Dr Leroy-Dyer, with family ties to the Darug, Awabakal, Garigal and Wiradyuri peoples of NSW, established this endowed fund to ensure that financial commitment required to access higher education is not a barrier to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students striving to achieve their goals. This scholarship supports domestic students enrolled in any undergraduate program from the School of Business who can demonstrate financial hardship. The award provides $4,500 annually, though this amount is subject to the annual distribution from the fund and may vary in some years.
