About this opportunity

This collaborative funding opportunity from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) supports research that increases scientific knowledge to achieve Canada's zero plastic waste targets. The call focuses on research that advances the science around plastic designs and alternatives, the sustainable use of plastics, and plastic waste diversion and recovery. It builds on previous research to detect and characterize plastics in the environment and examine the exposure and effects of plastics on wildlife and human health. Applicants are encouraged to collaborate with knowledge users such as government policymakers, stewardship councils, and Indigenous communities to support knowledge mobilization. Projects should address at least one of five CaPSA themes: detection and characterization of plastics in the environment; impacts on wildlife, human health and the environment; plastic design and alternatives; sustainable use of plastics; and waste diversion and recovery. Interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary expertise within networked project teams is strongly encouraged.
