About This Opportunity

The NSW Freedom Ride 60th Anniversary Scholarship for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students provides financial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at the University of Sydney. The scholarship was established in 2025 in recognition of the 60th Anniversary of the NSW Freedom Ride and is funded by an appeal in memory of the event. This scholarship is valued at $8,500 per annum and is tenable for the published full-time duration of the recipient's undergraduate (single or combined) degree up to a maximum total duration of 5 years full-time study or part-time equivalent. Recipients will receive 50% of the full-time payment if they enroll part-time in a semester. The scholarship annual value is paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and a personal statement that details how the scholarship will support the applicant to undertake their degree, and details of financial hardship. To continue receipt of the scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester. Applicants must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, have an unconditional offer of admission or be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney, be able to demonstrate financial hardship, and be from NSW.
