About this opportunity
This Scholarship aims to support a student undertaking a Masters by Research or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) within the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science, where the focus of their research is on characterising the functional behaviour of human stem cells in response to the extracellular matrix protein, tropoelastin. The Scholarship provides a stipend allowance of $29,507 per annum for up to 1.75 years for Master's recipients or up to 3 years for PhD recipients. This Scholarship is co-funded by the Australian Research Council through Discovery Project (DP220101644) and NHMRC Investigator Grant Emerging Leadership (EL1) for the project: Functional amplification of stem cells for tissue repair. The project seeks to investigate how adult stem cells receive and interpret mechanical or biochemical signals from matrix proteins such as tropoelastin, to stimulate or enhance a broad range of biological functions, including self-renewal, multi-lineage plasticity, and the secretion of cell-instructive factors. This work will contribute towards the understanding of natural mechanisms that modulate stem cell biology, with applications towards the production of stem cells possessing superior regenerative potential for tissue repair. International recipients may be eligible for Faculty of Science Research Tuition Fee Scholarship, subject to approval.
