About this opportunity

The Singh Fund provides 10 scholarships of £2,000 for the current academic year to support undergraduate Computer Science students facing challenges that make it harder to study and engage in university life. The award is designed to help reduce financial or personal pressures that may be affecting the ability to engage fully with studies or wider university experience. The aim is to remove some of the pressure, so students can focus on their studies, their wellbeing and their future. The fund has been established by a former Computer Science student who has gone on to blaze a trail in their career and who attributes much of their success to the life changing impact of their University of Birmingham degree. Recipients receive a scholarship payment of £2,000, an invitation to a recipient event on campus where they may meet the donor, gain expert advice and meet other scholars, and the possibility of informal mentoring focused on building confidence, planning for summer internships and preparing for future careers in Computer Science.

How to apply

Stages

Review process

Stage One requires a short written application with two questions relating to circumstances and how the scholarship would help. Stage Two is a short video submission (up to three minutes) for shortlisted applicants answering questions about their journey into Computer Science and future aspirations. A University panel reviews applications at both stages and agrees the final list of ten recipients based on strength and clarity of responses, demonstration of genuine challenges, likely impact, and commitment to studies.
