About This Opportunity

The Blayney Prize is one of the longest established prizes in University College Cork. It is named after Lord Blayney, a medical man of distinction, who died in 1874 and made a bequest to the former Queen's University of Ireland. This prize is awarded annually to the top-performing medical student based on results of the Summer Final Medical Examination. The award recognizes academic excellence in medical education and is available to students who have been enrolled at UCC for the three years immediately preceding the examination. The prize currently has a value of approximately €3,000, though this may vary due to investment market fluctuations. To be eligible, candidates must achieve the highest aggregate of marks in all modules, obtain honours in the examination, and take each subject for the first time. This prestigious award continues the legacy of Lord Blayney's commitment to supporting excellence in medical education.
