About this opportunity
The Dermot Keogh Prize in Irish History is an annual award established to mark Professor Dermot Keogh's long association with University College Cork, where he taught in the Department of History for thirty years (1980-2010). Professor Keogh was Jean Monnet Professor and later Professor of History, serving as Head of Department from 2002 to 2009. The prize fund was instituted to honor his contributions to the field and his distinguished academic career at UCC.
This prize is awarded to current UCC students in the School of History who demonstrate excellence in their undergraduate research. The award recognizes outstanding academic work specifically focused on Irish diplomatic history or the history of Church-State relations in Ireland. The prize is funded from an endowment made by donors to the University, with awards made in perpetuity from the annual income generated by the invested funds.
The value of the prize is approximately €100, though this amount may vary upwards or downwards depending on fluctuations in the investment market. Recipients must be current UCC students who have completed their Third Arts year. The award is part of UCC's broader commitment to recognizing and encouraging excellence in historical scholarship among undergraduate students.
