About this opportunity
The Dr. Raymond Shanahan Memorial Prize was established in November 1981 by the Consultant Staff Committee of Cork University Hospital to honour the memory of Dr. Raymond Shanahan, who died prematurely in August 1980. The prize is awarded biennially on the basis of a submission of original observations or research in a topic related to cardiovascular disease. The prize recognizes excellence in medical research among early career medical professionals who are graduates of University College Cork Medical School or graduates from other medical schools training in the University's teaching hospitals or training schemes.
Eligible candidates are post-registration non-consultant hospital doctors or their equivalent in GP Trainee Schemes. Applicants must submit a copy of their work with a letter from the Head of the Department confirming they are the primary author. The work may consist of a published or in-press paper, a case study/presentation/observation written up as for publication, or a research work/observation. The work must have been completed or published within 2 calendar years of the advertised award.
The prize is awarded at the UCC Medical Graduates Association Annual Scientific Meeting and consists of a certificate and honorarium. This biennial prize supports and recognizes early career medical researchers working in the field of cardiovascular disease, encouraging original research and scholarly contributions to this important medical specialty.
