About this opportunity

The Frank Coaldrake Scholarship is a postgraduate research scholarship that provides financial assistance to master's by research or PhD students undertaking research in the area of Japanese Studies or any other East Asian study in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney. The scholarship is valued at $4,000 and is designed to support students conducting research in Japanese studies or East Asian studies, which includes Melanesia, Micronesia, and New Guinea. Scholarship funds can be used for any activity that supports the recipient's research including fieldwork, conferences, or living expenses. The scholarship is funded by The Frank Coaldrake Memorial Fund and is awarded based on the applicant's research proposal and a personal statement that demonstrates how the scholarship will support their research. Preference is given to applicants experiencing financial hardship. The scholarship is paid as a one-off payment and is intended for commencement in the relevant semester or research period in which it is offered. Recipients must be currently enrolled in a master's by research or PhD program within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney at the time of application. The scholarship cannot be used for theological education of applicants for ordination. It is offered subject to the availability of funding and may be terminated if the recipient withdraws from their research degree, submits their thesis, or ceases to meet eligibility requirements.
