Queen's University Belfast Original Source

About This Opportunity

The Gordon Millington Scholarship was established in 2007 by Dr Gordon Stopford Millington OBE as a tribute to the work of the Irish Academy of Engineering. The scholarship aims to support students, particularly those who might face financial constraints, to further their studies to Masters level. Gordon Millington graduated from Queen's University in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and was a senior partner in Kirk, McClure and Morton. He received a Doctor of Science Honorary Degree from the University in 2001. During his working life, Dr Millington was involved with the structural design of significant buildings including the Waterfront Hall, the Ashby Building at Queen's, and the restoration of the Grand Opera House. The scholarship is awarded annually in the region of £2,000 to students demonstrating the best academic achievement and other outstanding performance. Applications are open to students who have commenced any of the current Masters degree programmes run by Civil Engineering at Queen's University Belfast, or who have commenced the final year of any of the MEng degree programmes in Civil Engineering, Environmental & Civil Engineering, or Structural Engineering with Architecture. Applicants must have at least a 2:1 or, if not yet graduated, have achieved the equivalent in the third year of a MEng degree programme.
