About This Opportunity
The William Bald Scholarship was established by civil engineering colleagues from industry and government as a tribute to the work of 'unsung heroes' who have contributed significantly to building and maintaining the infrastructure essential to Northern Ireland. The scholarship honors William Bald, who between 1832 and 1842 engineered the 38 km Antrim Coast Road that provided an invaluable trading link for the people of the Antrim Glens. This scholarship recognizes excellence in dissertation studies at Masters level in Civil Engineering or allied professions. The award was inspired by David Orr, a Queen's University Belfast graduate who served as President of the Institution of Civil Engineers in November 2007 and spoke about the profession's unsung heroes who work in teams to create and maintain the essential fabric of society. The scholarship supports postgraduate students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement in their Masters-level research.
