The Gregg Doran Scholarship

Queen's University Belfast Original Source

About This Opportunity

The Gregg Doran Scholarship was established in 2007 by Mrs Ainslie Doran to commemorate the memory of Prof Isaac Gregg Doran, a distinguished civil engineer and Queen's University Belfast alumnus. Prof Doran received first class honours in Civil Engineering in 1944, his MSc in 1945, and completed a PhD on The Settlement of Foundations. He founded his consulting practice in 1953 and was awarded an OBE in 1981 for services to the construction industry. He was made Honorary Professor in the School of the Built Environment at QUB in 1991 and contributed significantly to research and teaching in Geotechnics until his death in 2006. The scholarship provides £2,000 in funding to support students transitioning from undergraduate to postgraduate research. It is awarded annually to one student who demonstrates exceptional academic achievement in civil engineering disciplines. This award honours Prof Doran's legacy of excellence in civil engineering education and research at Queen's University Belfast. The scholarship supports the continuation of advanced study and research in civil engineering fields, particularly in areas related to geotechnics and foundation engineering that were central to Prof Doran's career.
