About This Opportunity

The William Ammer Memorial Educational Trust Fund honors Judge William Ammer, who was born in Circleville on May 21, 1919. Judge Ammer graduated from Circleville High School and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from The Ohio State University. After serving three and one-half years in the Army during World War II, he returned to OSU to complete his Juris Doctor degree. Judge Ammer served in various legal positions including Ohio Attorney General, Examiner for the Industrial Commission of Ohio, Assistant Attorney General of Ohio, and Prosecuting Attorney in Pickaway County. He was later appointed by Ohio Governor William O'Neill as Common Pleas Judge for Pickaway County, where he served six terms and handled more than 30,000 cases over 37 years on the bench. This scholarship supports graduating high school seniors from Pickaway County school districts who are pursuing post-secondary education. Judge Ammer was noted for his generous nature and belonged to nearly every civic and service organization in the community. The scholarship continues his legacy of community service and support for education. Eligible candidates must be graduating seniors from one of four school districts: Circleville City Schools, Logan Elm City Schools, Teays Valley Local Schools, or Westfall School District. Recipients must be pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited public or nonprofit independent college or university in the United States. The minimum award amount is $500.
