About This Opportunity

The Deane Orchestral Studies Scholarship, promoting links between the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) and Te Kōkī—New Zealand School of Music (NZSM), is dedicated to fostering the performance careers of exceptionally talented musicians who have demonstrated a strong and clear commitment to a career in orchestral performance. The scholarship builds on the Deane Endowment Trust's legacy of generous support to music and education, including regular contributions to activities of the NZSO and NZSM. These scholarships help strengthen the relationship between NZSM and NZSO as they seek to develop a National Music Centre. Two scholarships are awarded annually, each valued at $15,000 (NZD), to support students enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Practice program. Recipients must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents who have completed an undergraduate degree in performance at NZSM or any New Zealand university on any orchestral instrument with a GPA of 7 or demonstrate equivalent professional experience. The scholarship will be paid towards the recipients' university fees with any remaining funds paid directly to the recipient.
