About This Opportunity

The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) offers funding for doctoral programmes focused on register-based research. The purpose of this grant is to educate doctoral students in fundamental and innovative methods relevant for interdisciplinary and cross-sectorial register-based research. The grant aims to strengthen the recruitment base and quality within research areas that use register-based data. Register-based research refers to research based wholly or partly on microdata from authority or quality registers (data collected primarily for purposes other than research) that can be linked to data from other sources, such as researcher-generated data, biobank data, or survey data. The doctoral programme must be conducted in collaboration by at least three Swedish universities/colleges, have national reach, and offer education relevant to all research areas using register-based data. The programme is expected to stimulate and contribute to the internationalization of register-based research by developing knowledge about register-based research abroad, establishing networks between young researchers, and collaborating with international researchers and research institutions. The programme should provide structured educational offerings with joint courses and seminars of high scientific and pedagogical quality that are nationally and preferably internationally accessible. It should train doctoral students in good data management relevant to register-based research and the central guidelines for open access to research data, including FAIR principles.
