About this opportunity
The Greta Davis Equity Scholarship for Musically Talented Students is designed to support students undertaking performance study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the University of Sydney. Established in 2021 from a gift provided by Greta Davis, the scholarship provides financial support to students who can demonstrate eligible disadvantage, including those who hold asylum seeker or refugee status, identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, or experience financial hardship.
The scholarship is valued at $10,000 per annum and is available for students enrolled in either coursework or research degrees. The duration of support varies depending on the degree level and commencement date, ranging from 1.75 years for newer master's by research students to up to four years for PhD students or undergraduate/postgraduate coursework students. Priority in selection is given first to asylum seekers or refugees, second to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and third to students experiencing financial hardship.
Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout their tenure, with coursework students required to maintain a minimum weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 each semester. The scholarship is paid in two equal instalments per semester for coursework students and as a fortnightly stipend for research students. The scholarship cannot be deferred, though transfer within the faculty may be permitted with written approval from the Dean.
