About this opportunity

The John Nowes Yeovil Educational Bursaries are awarded from the John Nowes Exhibition Foundation through Somerset Community Foundation. These bursaries support young people aged 16-24 in the Yeovil area with additional educational costs that are not covered by their university or training provider. The program helps students access higher education, accredited training courses, apprenticeships, and courses in music or the arts, including opportunities to study abroad. The bursaries can be used for a wide range of educational expenses including educational resources and equipment, out-of-school activities that contribute to learning, study and field trips, travel costs, and IT equipment. All expenditures must benefit the applicant's learning and educational development. Applicants must be between 16 and 24 years old, have a family income below £35,000, and live in specific parishes around Yeovil including Yeovil Without, Yeovil Town, Mudford, Chilthorne Domer, East Coker, West Coker, Limington, Barwick and Brympton. The foundation typically supports 3 to 5 bursaries each year, with funding ranging from £200 to £2,000 and typical awards of around £1,000. Applications are assessed by the Somerset Community Foundation team, with recommendations reviewed by a panel for final decision. Successful applicants are notified by the end of July. The program is currently closed and expected to reopen in March 2026.
