About This Opportunity

This is a research project grant within the humanities and social sciences offered by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet). The purpose of the grant is to give researchers the freedom to formulate their own research ideas, methods, and implementation, as well as to solve a defined research task within a limited time. The grant supports projects lasting 1-4 years with funding ranging from 400,000 to 1,700,000 SEK per year. Projects should normally be up to three years, but a fourth year can be requested with special justification. The grant can be used for all types of project-related costs including salaries (including the applicant's own salary at up to 80% of full-time), premises, operational costs (such as consumables, travel including stays at research facilities, publication costs and minor equipment), and depreciation costs. The funding includes compensation for indirect costs as a proportion of direct costs according to the model used by the administering institution. Applications are open to individual researchers with a doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree who will serve as project leader and scientific head for the described research activity. The researcher must be employed by the administering institution when the grant period begins and throughout the entire grant period. Up to 6 other researchers with doctoral degrees or equivalent competence can be included as participating researchers.

Review process

Applications are reviewed by a review panel consisting of Swedish and international researchers. At least three members review and grade each application individually. The entire panel meets twice, once in spring and once in autumn, to discuss and prioritize applications. Only applications deemed to have a reasonable chance of funding proceed to the autumn meeting for more in-depth discussions.
