About this opportunity
The Roy Frederick Turner AM Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship valued at $7,000 per annum to assist disadvantaged students undertaking a degree leading to eligibility to practice law at the University of Sydney Law School. The scholarship was established anonymously in memory of Roy Frederick Turner, a graduate of the Faculty of Law at the University of Sydney whose studies were made possible by a government scholarship following service as a gunner in WWII. Roy Turner established the law firm Turner Freeman, was a member of the NSW Parliament, and made significant contributions to humanitarian organisations, including being a founding Director of the NSW Aboriginal Legal Service and Chairman of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. The scholarship aims to assist disadvantaged students undertaking a degree leading to eligibility to practice law. The scholarship is tenable for the normal full-time duration of the recipient's combined law degree program (excluding appended honours), and is paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 to continue receiving the scholarship.
