Cadw is the Welsh Government's historic environment service, responsible for protecting, conserving, and promoting the built heritage of Wales. The funding package was agreed as part of the development of a new disposal facility for low-level waste from decommissioning Dounreay. The NDA has provided £4M to the fund since 2011, with £300,000 distributed annually, and an additional £1M pledged over three years starting in 2025.

The Trust provides grants to community, sporting, educational, cultural and health organisations within the Manawatu/Tararua regions for energy-related projects that benefit consumers of the former CentralPower/ElectroPower energy companies, as well as bursaries for students.
