About This Opportunity

The Charles Medals in Physiology were established in 1909 from a donation by John James Charles, MD, FRSE, formerly Professor of Anatomy and Physiology at Queen's College, Cork. The donation included guaranteed preference stock of the London and North-Western Railway Company and a die to provide a Gold Medal annually for competition among students pursuing programs in Anatomy or Physiology at University College Cork. In 1960, the Governing Body decided that two medals should be provided annually - one for Anatomy and one for Physiology. The Charles Medal in Physiology is awarded annually to the candidate achieving the highest aggregate mark in the Fourth Year Physiology Examination. Eligible candidates are those registered as Fourth Year BSc (Physiology) students or Intercalated BSc (Physiology) students at University College Cork during the current session. The examination comprises eight modules including PL4005, PL4006, PL4009, PL4010, PL4011, PL4012, PL4013, PL4014 plus PL4020. The medal is only awarded when high merit has been demonstrated.
