About this opportunity

The Jane Sheridan Scholarship is a $20,000 scholarship established in 2018 to provide financial support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students undertaking studies at the University of Sydney. The scholarship is funded by a donation from Jane Sheridan and supports students enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degrees in selected fields including science, technology and information technology, engineering, mathematics, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, and medicine. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit and a personal statement describing how the scholarship will assist the applicant with their studies. Preference is given to applicants from a rural or regional background as defined by the Australian Government. Recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 50 each semester to continue receiving the scholarship. The scholarship provides a cash payment of AUD$20,000 per year and is tenable for up to 1 year of full-time study or part-time equivalent. Recipients enrolled part-time (less than 18 credit points per semester) will receive 50% of the full-time payment. The scholarship amount is paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. The selection committee consists of the Deputy Vice Chancellor - Indigenous Strategy and Services or their nominated delegate, at least one Associate Dean of Indigenous Strategy and Services, the Director of the Gadigal Centre, and a Gadigal Centre Advancement Officer. At least half of the selection committee members must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons as defined in the University's policy.
