About this opportunity
The Ross Scholarship is an undergraduate scholarship established in 2021 through a generous donation by Joan Ross to support students from rural or regional areas of Australia who will commence a science undergraduate degree at the University of Sydney. The scholarship provides financial assistance to recent school leavers who hold an unconditional offer of admission for a full-time undergraduate degree within the Faculty of Science.
This scholarship is specifically designed to reduce financial barriers for students from inner regional, outer regional, remote, or very remote areas of Australia as defined by the Australian Government Doctor Connect classifications. Recipients are selected based on their geographic location, personal statements about how the scholarship will assist them in their studies, their interests in studying science, and what they hope to achieve from their studies. Preference may be given to applicants based on ATAR or equivalent.
The scholarship is valued at $7,200 per annum and is tenable for up to four years, paid in two equal instalments after the census date of each semester. To maintain the scholarship, recipients must maintain a minimum Semester Average Mark (SAM) of 65 each semester and remain enrolled full-time in their science degree. The scholarship aims to make science education more accessible to talented students from rural and remote communities across Australia.
