TALENTIA Fellowship Program

The TALENTIA Fellowship Program is a postgraduate scholarship initiative offered by the Andalusian government for students from Andalusia to pursue doctoral studies abroad at selected institutions. The fellowship supports students undertaking Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Professional Doctorate programs at approved universities worldwide. Recipients must have a connection to Andalusia through birth, residence, work, university studies, or blood relations. The program provides comprehensive financial support including full tuition fee coverage, a monthly stipend for living expenses, housing and health insurance costs based on local indices, a 1,500 EUR relocation allowance, and travel costs. In exchange for this support, fellows commit to a four-year work commitment in or for Andalusia upon completion of their degree. While Swinburne University is not currently on the official list of approved institutions, fellowship applicants may select other educational centers by submitting additional documentation proving the chosen program and university is of comparable standing to those on the approved list and suitable for the applicant's future career plans.

Chilean Bicentennial Fund Scholarships

The Chilean Bicentennial Fund Scholarships are available to Chilean students who wish to undertake postgraduate research degrees in Australia at Swinburne University of Technology. The scholarship provides financial support for Chilean nationals pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Masters by Research programs. Recipients must commit to returning to Chile within 24 months of course completion and residing in Chile for the same duration as the scholarship period. If recipients return to live outside of Santiago, this period is reduced to half of the scholarship period. Failure to meet this condition requires repayment of the scholarship. The program is administered in partnership with CONICYT (Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica) and Becas Chile, supporting Chile's commitment to developing its research capacity through international education.

VET Digital Scholarship 2025

The VET Digital Scholarship 2025 provides a once-off payment for VET students who are experiencing financial hardship preventing them from having access to sufficient equipment (such as IT hardware and media equipment) and/or to contribute to connectivity costs in order to undertake the online requirements of course delivery. The scholarship is valued at $500 and is designed to support commencing or continuing students enrolled in any Vocational Education courses (Certificate IV and below, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) at Swinburne University of Technology. Successful applicants will be contacted to provide a receipt for their hardware or equipment purchases and a testimonial on how the scholarship has benefited them. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in Semester 2, 2025, have no fee debt, and demonstrate financial hardship through supporting documentation such as Health Care Cards, Centrelink benefits, or similar evidence. A personal statement of 500 words describing the impact of financial hardship and how the scholarship will support studies is required. Applications are currently closed.

The 2026 scholarship focuses on an interdisciplinary research project combining chemistry and computer science to address a critical industry challenge: asbestos identification. Students will work with a team of researchers to develop an artificial intelligence-powered phone application capable of instantaneous asbestos identification. This addresses a major problem for the building construction industry, firefighting, and home renovators, as asbestos is highly toxic and fast identification is challenging. The research project suits students with strong analytical skills and an interest in signal processing and machine learning algorithm development in an applied, multidisciplinary context. Scholars gain valuable insight into the research process while contributing to meaningful real-world applications. Vacation Research Scholarships typically run for six to eight weeks during the summer vacation period, providing intensive research experience for undergraduate students in their penultimate or final year of study.

Piers Fowler Flight Instructor Scholarship

The Piers Fowler Flight Instructor Scholarship is offered to recognize Piers Fowler's contribution to aviation and his time at Swinburne, first as a student and then as a teacher sharing his skills and learning of aviation with other pilots. Piers was a dedicated and accomplished instructor who was an integral part of general and commercial aviation in Australia for over 20 years. The scholarship is offered to a student undertaking the Flight Instructor Rating Practicum (AVF80006) in the Graduate Certificate of Aviation (Piloting) offered by Swinburne University. This scholarship not only seeks to sponsor aspiring pilots to achieve their Instructor Rating but to provide the opportunity to experience the role of Airline Check Pilot / Training Pilot. Thanks to the generous financial support of Professor Janet Hiller, Inaugural Dean of Health Sciences at Swinburne, this Scholarship has been established to support and encourage a postgraduate student continuing their studies in Health Sciences. This scholarship will be awarded to a high-achieving postgraduate student, who has experienced disadvantage, to continue their education in one of the following disciplines at Swinburne: Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, or Physiotherapy. The scholarship provides a one-off payment of $5,500 to support students who meet specific eligibility criteria including being an Australian citizen, permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder, New Zealand citizen, or international student enrolled full-time in an eligible postgraduate course. Giles Family Foundation Study Abroad Program 2025 (Travel in Semester 1, 2026)

The Giles Family Foundation Study Abroad Program has been established by Swinburne alum Michael H. Giles, who is passionate about supporting students eager to broaden their horizons through international study. As a former recipient of a study abroad scholarship during his time at Swinburne, Michael understands first-hand the transformational impact that studying overseas can have. His own experience inspired him to create this opportunity for others. The program offers five scholarships of $7,000 each to support students embarking on a life-changing semester of study overseas. The scholarship is designed for continuing second-year or above Swinburne students enrolled full-time in any undergraduate (including Honours) or postgraduate degree at Swinburne University of Technology. Recipients must be approved for an Overseas Semester Exchange in Semester 1, 2026 to any Swinburne partner university. The funds can be used in conjunction with the OS HELP Loan and will be released once proof of acceptance at the overseas host institution and confirmation from Swinburne Abroad is received.

Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship 2026

The Swinburne Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship is a prestigious award designed to recognize and support outstanding academic achievement for students commencing any Swinburne on-campus degree. The scholarship provides $5,000 per annum for the normal duration of the chosen degree, plus a one-off payment of $2,000 towards an international study experience. Recipients are also invited to apply for Swinburne's Student Ambassador Program, representing the university at key events. Students living more than 80km from the Hawthorn campus who apply for accommodation by the required deadline are guaranteed a place in Swinburne Residences for Semester 1, though accommodation costs are not covered by the scholarship. This scholarship is automatically awarded to eligible students who achieve an ATAR of 95 or higher and preference a Swinburne degree, with no separate application required.

Tuition Fee Scholarship

The Tuition Fee Scholarship is offered by Swinburne University of Technology for prospective international research students pursuing doctoral or master by research programs. This scholarship covers the cost of research tuition fees up to a maximum of four years full-time equivalent for doctoral students and two years for research masters. Scholarships are considered on a case-by-case basis and require support from the student's Principal Supervisor. The Principal Supervisor must complete an Application for Tuition Fee Scholarship justifying their grounds for support, which is then subject to approval by the School and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research). The scholarship applies to tuition fees only and has no cash value. Recipients must commence their studies in the specified scholarship commencement period and cannot defer their studies to another year without reapplying. The allocation of this scholarship is subject to review on a semester-by-semester basis by the Swinburne Higher Degrees Research Committee.

Sustainable Consumption and Digital Media PhD Scholarship

This PhD scholarship is part of a collaborative project titled 'A "virtual market" for analysing the uptake of energy efficiency measures in residential and commercial sectors', funded by the Collaborative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living. The project uses agent based modelling (ABM) to represent consumer behaviour, social networks and their responses to non-financial incentives and barriers in order to better understand, plan and assess different types of market interventions to achieve energy efficiency. The PhD project will specifically analyse the role and mechanisms of social communication, learning and social networks in fostering sustainable and energy efficient household practices, exploring this in relation to digital media technologies and internet infrastructure, and the emergent types of knowledge and goods exchange, social interaction and lifestyles it brings about. The PhD candidate will be based at the Swinburne Institute for Social Research and will work within an interdisciplinary team of researchers with expertise in media and communications, sociology and anthropology in conjunction with CSIRO.

Additional benefits include paid leave of absence, thesis allowance, relocation allowance, and 3 days of paid Cultural leave per annum available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates for cultural and ceremonial obligations.

Indigenous Financial Assistance Grant

The Moondani Toombadool Centre has established the Indigenous Financial Assistance Grant to support any current Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Swinburne students experiencing financial hardship, or who have been impacted by an unexpected emergency. This grant provides financial support through a one-off payment to help students continue their studies during times of hardship or emergency.
